This course was divided into 5 parts: a portrait, people and activity, buildings in use, a sense of place and people and place on assignment. For my submission, I took the 10 best images overall from my assignments and reviewed the learning that took place around them.
I sent my 10 prints off to be processed in approximately A3 size and mounted them in A2 mount board. I was interested in the detail which my camera had picked up on some of the images which I hadn't appreciated until I viewed it at this size. This is the second time I have enlarged my work to this size, and although it is nerve racking mounting the images myself, I do feel that I have achieved something at the end of it. This time I chose a different paper and was pleased with the quality and how well the prints worked on the paper.
Looking back, I learnt far more from this course than I originally thought. I had the opportunity to build my confidence of taking images of people unseen, became more confident with flash, questioned the type of photographs I would have taken (with regards to people and place) and looked at different compositions and techniques. Through attending different exhibitions and research, I think my work has developed. One of the outside influences was visiting the exhibition of American Night Photography at Nottingham University with a fellow OCA student and following this up with reading Hido's book which accompanied the exhibition to gain more of an insight into people and place, narrative and storytelling. I would also like to acknowledge the help from my tutor who was encouraging, supportive and challenged me to work outside of my comfort zone.
So what's next...... A study trip with the OCA to view the Aspirations Exhibition in Doncaster in February 2015, off to the Photography Show at the NEC in March 2015 and start Level 2 Landscape with the OCA.
